Eleanor qualified as a solicitor after obtaining a broad work experience advocating on behalf of young people and adults with mental health needs, drug/alcohol addiction, and/or criminal offending behaviour.
She joined Butler & Co in 2019 having specialised in mental capacity law, and advises on a variety of matters particularly where restrictive or controlling practices are considered necessary to support a person with a range of physical and mental health needs.
Eleanor takes an active interest in cases where drug/alcohol use or addiction impacts on a person’s decision-making capacity, and where a person’s acquired brain injury or neuro-developmental disorder requires a multi-agency approach to risk management and to delivery of care and treatment.
She worked on a variety of cases during the Covid-19 pandemic concerned with specific medical interventions, the Covid-19 vaccination, and where unnecessary or disproportionate contact restrictions unlawfully infringed upon clients’ rights to contact with loved ones.
She is a skilled litigator, determined to preserve and uphold the rights of complex and vulnerable individuals. She represents such individuals in proceedings brought before the Court of Protection to consider a person’s best interests and make decisions about their health and welfare, or the management of their affairs. Such proceedings can be contentious and emotive, to which Eleanor’s empathetic and diplomatic approach is well-suited.
Eleanor is committed to expand upon her communication skills and is a student of British Sign Language. This drives her motivation to communicate and collaborate effectively, ensuring always that her clients’ voices are heard, whatever their own communication needs.
She lives in Somerset where she enjoys spending time with her family (and her cats!).
